RAFTING IN ASAHAN RIVER
Asahan River is one of seven rafting sports sites in North Sumatra province. It has been very popular in the eyes of the domestic and international rafter. The current ferocity and challenges of rapids in the Asahan River make it as the third best rafting location in the world after Colorado in America and Zambesi in Africa. The Asahan River flow reaches 20 cubic meters per second so it is classified into grade 4 and 5. The length of the Asahan River reaches 147 km. This river comes from Lake Toba with the number of 5 pieces of tributaries that cross several large areas in North Sumatra such as Kisaran City, Tanjung Balai. Pematang Siantar and also Balige (the capital of Kab Tobasa). Asahan River is the location of kayaking and rafting for professional rafter by crossing the river along the 22 km which usually starts from the Village Tangga until then ends at Bandar Island. One of the international rafting races in Asahan River is Asahan Whitewater Festival.
